According their latest numbers Yahoo! News tops the list of the most visited news and media websites with 6.53% of the market share. That puts them well over CNN and even Google News with nearly double their combined shares. This is good news for Yahoo, considering Google destroys them in the search engine category with 73.66% compared to Yahoo's meager 15.55%.

So what brings people to Yahoo News before any other? Well it probably has something to do with the fact that Yahoo is a News Aggregation site, meaning they pull stories from multiple websites and feature them on their news page. Google does the very same thing, but they haven't been in the news "business" as long as Yahoo has. And CNN tends to direct people to their own news articles as well as their affiliates.

Yahoo simply offers the average person a quick look at the latest news and also has some interactive features which many Yahoo users have grown accustomed to. Many of their stories come from the Associated Press and Reuters which are major news sources worldwide. But there is no shortage of sources besides just the big names.

The internet has fast become one of the most popular methods for getting the latest news. Newspapers which have seen a steep decline over the last 10 years have either adapted or they have been replaced by popular websites like the Drudge Report. This is simply a growing trend that cant be ignored. And with the rise of blogging websites, even more pressure is put on news organizations to keep coming up with new ideas, and new ways to stay on top.

So whats the next target? Think cable news. Especially in the current economy where more and more people are staying home and looking for affordable alternatives with less commercials to get all their information and entertainment. Plain and simple.. the internet is taking over the world, might as well get used to it.
