Post Apocalyptic Movies | Kontraband Missed One

Kontraband.com blogger Kevin Holmes recently did an article on the 15 great post-apocalyptic movies. Lucky they are great, and not the greatest, because he missed a big one.

By far one of the greatest sci fi movies ever created, Bladerunner takes place in Los Angeles, California in the year 2019. Man has left the earth in near ruin, pollution has stripped the earth of life, and the only light comes from the scattered neon signs of once great cities. Man now relies on humanoids known as 'replicants' to do manual labor on colonies outside of earth. The movie is based on the Philip K. Dick novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

The movie was released in 1982, a year which many Americans may remember as one of the worst economic times in the last 50+ years in the United States. As Unemployment pushes 10% across the country, 1982 saw over 11% unemployment. Doom and gloom is nothing new in the news these days. Movies such as Bladerunner remind us that reality may be far more comforting, yet much less entertaining than anything the big screen can throw at us. Unless of course you count the post apocalyptic gem, The Day After Tomorrow which was a huge flop, and is much more laughable than Water World if you ask me.
