Bobby Scales, an 11-year career minor leaguer who has bounced around several times, recently got called up to the Chicago Cubs. Scales, an infielder is a switch hitter with a little bit of pop and speed. After working tirelessly at the minor league level, Scales was rewarded for his diligence by the Cubs.
Football legend, John Madden, announced Thursday that he will officially be retiring as an announcer for NBC. Still 3 years left on his contract, the decision was made based on his family, at age 73, his grandchildren are old enough to notice his absence due to the demands of being one of the top announcers in football history. Cris Collinsworth will be the lucky man to replace Madden.
This brings to an end, a career spanning over 30 years in broadcasting, as well as an additional 11 years as a coach. No doubt one of the most successful sports figures in the last 40 years, Madden has several notable achievements. A Super Bowl XI win, as coach of the Raiders in 1976, and a regular season record of 103-32-7. Not to mention his induction into the football hall of fame in 2006.
