iPhone Mania | The Obsession Grows
- Front Page:

Perhaps you have heard of the iPhone, I sure hope so unless you have been living under a rock for the last 2 years.
The smartphone was unleashed upon the world on June 29, 2007 and 3 generations later over 21 million have been sold. When first released to the obsessive tech masses its price was a whopping $599. Critics cried bloody murder while Apple Loyalists threw their money at the shiny new phone with a touch screen and advanced internet support.
2 months after its release and all the hype Apple decided to cut the iPhone price tag by $200. As expected there was some major bitching that ensued which led to Steve Jobs (Apple's CEO) to issue a written apology.
Since then things have only improved for Apple after countless wireless companies jumped on the bandwagon and offered iPhones on their standard cell phone plans. Now you can get the 3rd generation iPhone 3GS for under $100.
Because of that it seems you can't hear a ring tone without seeing someone with an iPhone. It seems the Apple is on track to burying its predecessor the Blackberry which has seen slumping sales in the last year or so.
Its all about the features these days. The iPhone has just about anything you could imagine from GPS, a built in MP3 player and its own web browser. And most importantly the Applications or downloads that often hook iphone users and keep them coming back for more.
Its somewhat ridiculous the number of apps out there. For instance, did you know they make one that tells you when to pee during a movie? They have an application for everything i guess.
So is all this hype really justified? Gone are the days of cellphones simply being used to call or text people. They have become an extension of peoples own being. Its hard to imagine life without a cellphone just for the purpose of keeping in contact with friends and family. Now people won't be able to leave their phones behind without being dead to the entire world.
Welcome to the new age of tech obsession gone mobile.
