The Blob! | Alaska Encounters Strange "Biological Material"
- Front Page:

"It's certainly biological. It's definitely not an oil product of any kind." said Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Terry Hasenauer. Locals had noticed the mass of brown gunk which is reported to be 12-15 miles long and drifting with the tides. The coast guard was sent to investigate the "blob" off the northern coast of Alaska in the Chukchi Sea. Its something that has never been witnessed before at least not by those in the towns Wainwright and Barrow where the substance washed up on their shores.
Its believed the substance may be dead algae which is normally anchored to the bottom of the sea/ocean floor. Perhaps dislodged from its source and left to drift with the tides. Officials from the North Slope Borough collected samples and plan to have tests to determine the identity and possible origin of the material by early next week.
Alaskans can sleep well knowing its not oil related, and may in fact be a natural occurrence. Although I was a bit excited when i heard the term "Blob" and "Biological Material". Alaska could only be so lucky to have that kind of excitement instead of the typical political drama that has swept the state for the last year or so. Until it becomes reality, enjoy the classics!
