Republicans Lose, Conservatives Win
- Front Page:

According to the latest Gallup Polls, only 41% of Americans view themselves as "leaning right" while 48% "lean left." That is consistent with the numbers comparing pure Republicans to Democrats by the same 7 point margin.
You would think with the Democratic majority in congress along with a Democratic president that these numbers would reflect a harsh reality for Republicans. And you would be correct, but perhaps not in the way you might imagine. Another poll shows that close to 39% of Americans consider themselves to be Conservative, and nearly 20.5% view themselves as being Liberals.
The key in this entire equation lands on the 40% of Moderates who tend to be split between both the Democratic and Republican parties. The Liberals are the minority, yet the Republican party has lost touch with its conservative roots. These numbers reflect the 2008 election when a majority of Conservatives simply stayed home and voted for neither candidate. McCain lost the Conservative vote and Obama won the Moderate/Independent Vote.
Nearly 8 months after the elections these numbers are still relevant. Even after the resistance to socialized health care, lack of confidence in the 800 billion dollar stimulus package and Obama's dropping poll numbers, Republicans are still losing. The party that has slowly creeped towards the center in the interest of votes have seen their plan backfire.
The Republican party needs to get back to Fiscal Conservatism, Limited government and the Constitution. That is where the real support lies within America, not in some bible belt or moral cause, but within the the freedoms in which this country was based upon.
