2012 The Ultimate Disaster Movie! or Ultimate Movie Disaster?

Yes, Woody Harrelson is the prophet on top of a mountain!

First, the Mayan calendar predicted it...Now, science has confirmed it...but we never imagined it could really happen. The end is just the beginning. Who will be left behind?

These are the taglines for the new "blockbuster" directed by Roland Emmerich, the man who brought us such movie classics as 'Independence Day', 'Godzilla' and 'The Day After Tomorrow.' And by classic I mean unforgettable for better or worse.

Everyone remembers the movie Independence Day right? Released in 1996 it ranks as one of the top 30 grossing films of all time with over 800 million dollars grossed worldwide. Two years later we were given a sneak peak of Emmerich's newest project, Godzilla. Grossing half that of ID4 with a budget nearly double, it was considered to be a flop although it did turn a profit. Fans would have much rather seen Godzilla in the rubber suit instead of using CGI affects to turn Godzilla into a giant fire breathing half dragon half Iguana action figure.

And last but not least, The Day After Tomorrow. I put the title in bold because this was supposed to be the disaster movie to end all disaster movies, oddly enough it didn't end the careers of many of those who were featured in the film. Thanks world! Yes, considered to be one of the worst big budget movies in the last 10 years, The Day After Tomorrow actually topped 500 million, over 300 million of which came from outside of the United States. But behold, a disaster movie which will top all disaster movies combined!

Will this movie be good old fashioned fun or will there be some underlying political message. The Day After Tomorrow set its targets on climate change. The ignorance of mankind bringing about the destruction of the earth and the near complete destruction to mankind itself. For many this spoiled the movie, it was so bad that it could have been good if it wasn't for the movie preaching to its viewers.

2012 is of course based off of the Mayan prophesy that indicates that the world will end on December 21, 2012. At least this time around, prophesy has less of a cult following than global warming. Can Emmerich finally silence some of his critics who claim he relies too much on special affects, of course not, did you see the trailer!

Oh yes, I almost forgot. Emmerich directed more than disaster movies, such as the Patriot which was a huge hit despite its historical inaccuracy and the not so critically acclaimed movie, 10,000 B.C which depicted Woolly Mammoths being used to erect ancient Egyptian pyramids, lol.
